Instructions

This is a POSTER project that you will need to complete from scratch. You will need to show that you have put thought into this project by creating an idea sheet, several thumbnails, mockups and then create the final poster in InDesign.

The Task

The task is to create a motivational poster for public display at Herriman High using one of the one-liner quotes from the video above. It can be made up of photography (either your own or stock), graphic design, illustrations, typography, graphic elements. It must communicate a strong message visually as well as verbally.

You will use InDesign to layout your poster, but you may use Illustrator and Photoshop to create your artwork. All type should be done in Illustrator or InDesign.

  • SIZE: 24×36 inches
  • ORIENTATION: Portrait ONLY
  • BLEED: Yes, FULL bleed.
  • READABILITY: From a distance of 15 feet.

Here’s what you will need to turn in:

Idea Sheet

Your initial notes sheet, including the quote/quotes you selected, notes and ideas of what you want to accomplish. sketches, drawings, clippings, etc. It can be in the form of a mood board (look up mood boards on Google).

Thumbnail Sketches

You need several thumbnail PENCIL sketches showing several ideas. I need to see that you put some thought into this stage.

Mock-ups

You need to narrow down your ideas to two of the best that communicates the message strongly. Then create full annotated mock-ups for them IN COLOR.

Final Poster Design

You will need to create all of your artwork and assemble it in InDesign for your final product. You will need to PACKAGE your InDesign files to the Hand-in Folder.

GRADING:

You will be graded on the PROCESS as well as the final design. You need to show that you put much thought and effort into your design and have completed the full workflow from start. Your final design must be readable and communicate your message STRONGLY and EASILY.

TIMELINE:

April 16 – Class Presentation of your Idea Sheet, Thumbnails, and Mock-up.

April 24 – FINAL files due.
