Project Description

Instructions

Output a digital file for specific purposes.

Very few parameters are given and grading is based on creativeness, use of standard rules of art & design, mastery of Photoshop skills, and ability to follow these directions:

Split Toning

  1. Choose one of your own COLOR photos from your Lightroom library edit it using the develop module.
  2. Select the Split Toning panel and create an enhanced image by changing the color of the highlights and shadows.
  3. Return to the Library module. CTRL+Click on the image you created and create a virtual copy.
  4. Select the virtual copy, go to the Develop module again and reset all of the settings using the Reset Button in the Develop Module.
  5. Convert the image to Black and White by clicking the Black and White button above the panels on the right.
  6. Select the Split Toning panel and create an enhanced image by changing the color of the highlights and shadows.
  7. Return to the Library Module.

Output

  1. Choose one of your enhanced photos. and click the export button.
  2. Create a new export preset based on your previously created preset but change the “Image Sizing” to 1024px wide and tall at 72ppi.
  3. Save the new export setting and name it 1024-72ppi, and export the photo using this setting (save to the Hand-n Folder – Be sure to include the assignment/description in the filename)
  4. Export the other split-toned image with the same export setting.
  5. Choose the first split-toned image again and create a virtual copy. Then select it and go to the Develop Module.
  6. Crop the virtual copy to an 8:10 ratio (either portrait or landscape depending on your photo).
  7. Return to the library module and click the export button.
  8. Create a new export preset based on your previously created preset but change the “Image Sizing” to 10 in wide and tall at 300ppi.
  9. Save the new export setting and name it 8×10-300ppi, and export the photo using this setting (save to the Hand-n Folder – Be sure to include the assignment/description in the filename)
  10. Return to the Library Module and make a virtual copy of the second split-toned image.
  11. Select the virtual copy and go to the Develop module.
  12. Crop the virtual copy to an 11:14 ratio (either portrait or landscape depending on your photo).
  13. Return to the library module and click the export button.
  14. Create a new export preset based on your previously created preset but change the “Image Sizing” to 14 in wide and tall at 300ppi.
  15. Save the new export setting and name it 11×14-300ppi, and export the photo using this setting (save to the Hand-n Folder – Be sure to include the assignment/description in the filename)
  16. Upload both of the appropriate split-tone images (1024px) to the Split Tone gallery on the class website.
